A little girl named Tasha is having a hard time in school. She feels like she belongs in nature. In fact, she spends a lot of her time daydreaming about clouds, rocks, animals, and stars. One day Tasha meets a gate-keeper and a story-teller Molly, a creature known as the perfect pigeon. Molly is well-known in the community as a pigeon that knows many wisdom stories and often passes them down from one generation to another. By chance, while Tasha is playing truant and trying to escape from recurrent bouts of boredom at her local school, she happens to meet Molly. Tasha's life begins to change in a very subtle manner. The location of Molly's nest in an abandoned schoolyard right next door to Tasha's school is what makes the meetings between bird and human possible.
An immediate friendship develops. When Tasha questions the mysterious pigeon, she is not sure of why she has chosen such an urban setting as her domestic nest in which to raise her brood of pigeons. All in all, Tasha really doesn't understand how Molly seems to know more than most of her teachers at school. Eventually, Molly becomes her "teacher" and instructs the young girl what can happen to a person that does not want to learn how to read. Life can become super-difficult for such children when the desire to learn becomes an issue and the visionary is seen as an impediment to learning in general. By listening to the back story and the subtext of the stories what Moll has to say about Peter, Tasha soon learns to respect learning and moves on with her life of newly found success.
