Overview and Introduction:  In this conversation the performance poet, visionary artist, and interviewer Elizabeth Bishop and the writer and cultural theorist Vida Penezic explore the possibility of transcending the limitations of one’s culture/ framework/context -- through awareness, creativity, and/or art.  The conversation is organized around two books:  Art for Hotels (2010) and Conditions of Extreme Scarcity (forthcoming), both by Vida and Relja Penezic. Both books are fiction/art-book hybrids.     

The video has two parts:  

Part 1, Picking Up the Tent Pegs, 

focuses on Art for Hotels and is further subdivided into two sections:  

1.1. Entering the Circle, and  

1.2. Walking the Waking Dream.

Part 2, The Happiness Factor, 

focuses on the authors’ upcoming work Conditions of Extreme Scarcity and runs as one uninterrupted whole.

Vida and Relja Penezic  Vida and Relja are siblings. Vida is a writer, educator, and cultural theorist. In her creative and scholarly work, Vida explores the tension between the cultural frameworks and awareness. Relja is a painter, media artist, print-maker, photographer, and filmmaker. His work represents a multimedia blend that combines technology and painting, performance and video, art and craft.   So far, they have collaborated on two books:  

Art for Hotels (2010)  and  

Conditions of Extreme Scarcity
